The Drive North - Stranraer to Isle of Skye

Scotland is 1000 postcards and it's difficult to describe our drive from Stranraer to Skye so we just put in heaps of pictures. We tried not to include too many 'just scenery' pics so that you could enjoy our smiling faces.

A real treasure is the fantastic Castle Culzean that we stumbled on. Its on the west coast (about 10 metres from the water on the edge of a cliff) south of Glasgow.

Scotland is all Lochs and rivers. Water everywhere. This was a particularly nice B and B although it cost 50 quid.

In the old days they used to move alot of goods around by boat on the Lochs and they dug channels to join them together so they could move things even easier. To make sure the water level stays high they used (and still do) a series of dams so that boats can move up and down the river in deep water without the water creating an unnavigable waterfall or rapids.

The highest mountain in Great Britian is Ben Nevis.

The Isle of Skye. This is a fantastic place with cliffs and lochs and mountains and rivers and all of the great Scottish scenery crammed into a 50 mile long stretch of land (connected by a bridge) to the mainland.

So...its mostly pictures but we hope it has shown you a bit of what we saw so that you can enjoy our trip with us. We are back to work now so that has taken the shine off things for the next few weeks but then we will be back on the road for a 15 day tour of europe. We have a couple more entries to come this week including my (Ben) trip to Berlin. Miss you guys.

Mel (Rachs sister) is from York, WA. She wanted you all to know that!
